NEW MODULAR LIFT SPREADER BEAM ADDS TO PROJECT LIFT CAPABILITY

SCH has added to its capability for handling heavy lifts by acquiring a new 72 tonne Modular Variable Spreader Beams and auxiliary equipment.

The new investment expands the stevedores’ fleet of heavy lift and project cargo handling equipment and can be used with quayside or mobile cranes, along with ship’s gear.

The frame, supplied by Tilbury-based Delphini, should prove particularly valuable in lifting over-weight containers, casings or one-off cargoes. It features adjustable spreader bars that mean it can be configured to fit different cargo dimensions.

SCH Operations Director Jamie Secker explained: “Previously, we would hire in this type of equipment as our current lifting beams were only rated at 25,30 and 50t respectively.

“Investing in our own variable lifting beams, allied to our established skills in stowing and lashing, will enable us to offer a more flexible and efficient service for handling large and bulky cargoes.”
