WAREHOUSE CASE STUDY – Warehouse Paints the World

Warehouse Case Study 2

A worldwide distribution network for art materials is centred on the SCH bonded warehouse in Totton. Materials arrive daily from manufacturers all over the UK to be stored and subsequently distributed throughout the world, from Europe to the US and from the Middle East to Australia.

Working for the Middlesex  office of a global forwarding agency, which in turn works on behalf of a US-based principal, we handle  pallets of materials that include paper, canvasses, notepads, adhesive, tubes of paint and brushes.

Some 300 pallets are regularly on the warehouse floor and are distributed from Totton, either in containers or part loads shipped through Southampton and other ports, including a weekly container load bound for New York. In addition, truck loads are distributed by road to various European destinations.

It is a major receiving, storage and distribution operation that requires working closely with the UK agents to manage the inventory, through a dedicated stock management system, and liaising with transport operators.

Shipments leave the warehouse daily and an element of the business also includes reels of paper imported from the US, stored and then distributed to UK manufacturers who make them into notepads. The finished items are then returned to the Totton warehouse for onward distribution.

The business has been growing steadily and has strengthened our credentials as a warehouse and distribution hub for UK exports bound for destinations worldwide.
