jpegPort terminal Operators SCH have welcomed the 2015 National Transport Awards which have recognised Southampton as the UK’s Port of the Year.

Southampton beat off stiff competition to claim the award with judges impressed by Associated British Port’s drive to constantly improve operations and facilities. The port has invested some £150 million in new facilities over the past two years.

SCH is a leading service provider in the port with significant operations in sectors including roll-on/roll-off and cruise. Southampton is recognised as the UK’s number one cruise port and the country’s top car handling port, while it has also retained the title of Europe’s most productive port.

SCH Operations Director Kevin Hulme commented: “ABP and all those who contribute to the success of the Port of Southampton should be congratulated for continuing to improve the facilities and levels of service that have helped to make the Port number one. At SCH, we look forward to continuing to work with the port’s customers to maintain its impressive reputation.”

Nick Ridehalgh, ABP director Southampton, said: “This fantastic accolade is testament to the hard work of the staff across the entire port, from those delivering our ambitious business plans to those who contribute to the incredibly smooth operations that take place 24 hours a day.”
